The Norma R. Smith Memorial Scholarship was established in 2022 in memory of our loving mother, Norma R. Smith, an amazing woman whose heart embraced not only her children, but all those within her sphere of influence. The scholarship is a $2,000 award given to a graduating senior of African-Nova Scotian descent, to be used at a post-secondary institution of their choice.
To be eligible for this award, applicants must be of African-Nova Scotian descent, a Grade 12 student be accepted by a recognized post-secondary education institution (college or university) in Canada and plan to attend that institution in the fall of the same year.

Typically scholarships will be awarded annually. However, the Donor reserves the right to award scholarships on a more or less frequent basis as income levels and the Foundation permit.

This scholarship will be judged on the following:
- Documented community service/involvement
Financial need
One-page aspirational/inspirational essay on what the student hopes to gain from their educational experience
Submission Requirements:
- Please attach two letters of recommendation: one academic and one community.
- Please attach a one-page aspirational/inspirational essay on what you hope to gain from your educational experience.
- Please attach a copy of your most recent academic transcript.
- Please describe your community service/involvement (this may include community sports teams, church groups, mentorship/coaching programs or any charitable associations).
